Todd Blanche has choreographed or overseen some of the worst abuses of power in DOJ’s 155-year history. We executed a massive, multi-tiered campaign to defeat it – in Congress, the media, and the public square – leveraging many of the thousands of DOJ alumni in our network along the way. Although he was confirmed, our efforts created a record that we’ll use to hold him accountable.
We provided direct support to DOJ employees affected by the horrors of Operation Metro Surge, while working closely with former federal prosecutors from Minnesota and the Civil Rights Division to draw attention to DOJ’s abdication of its vital role in holding federal law enforcement accountable.
As a senior DOJ official, Emil Bove fired over a dozen Jan. 6 prosecutors; ordered the dismissal of charges against New York Mayor Eric Adams; and told DOJ attorneys to consider defying judges by saying “fuck you” to the courts. We were the leading voice against his nomination to the federal bench, and set the groundwork for a vigorous opposition campaign if he is nominated to a seat on the Supreme Court.
This administration has driven out more than 75% of attorneys from DOJ’s Civil Rights Division. It also radically scaled back enforcement of the nation’s civil rights laws and constitutional protections. We’ve led the charge in speaking out about what the decimation of the division and the abandonment of civil rights enforcement means for all Americans.
We projected a John Adams quote: “A government of laws, not of men,” on DOJ’s headquarters that covered a banner of President Trump’s face. We did this to protest the creation of a $1.776 billion taxpayer-fueled slush fund to reward the President’s allies and an IRS immunity deal for the President, his family, and his businesses. The statement made news around the world.
