Former Trump and DOJ Lawyer Ty Cobb Says Blanche Is Unfit To Be Attorney General

Justice Connection today released a video featuring Ty Cobb, who served as a White House lawyer under the first Trump administration, opposing Todd Blanche’s nomination for Attorney General. 

Cobb is a former DOJ prosecutor and supervisor who served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of Maryland from 1981 to 1986, where he was Chief of the Criminal Division and Mid-Atlantic Regional Coordinator for the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force. In early 2017, he was asked by President Trump to serve as the Special White House Counsel where, among other duties, he managed the White House response to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. 

“Todd Blanche was a prosecutor, a private defense attorney, and is part of this administration. I was a prosecutor, a private defense attorney, and part of Trump’s first administration,” Cobb says in the video. “People that I know who have served in the administrations of the last 50 years of my professional career have all been people who devoted themselves to the country – not to an individual.”

While serving as Deputy Attorney General and Acting Attorney General, Blanche has signed off on vindictive prosecutions into Trump’s political enemies, boasted of firing career prosecutors and agents who were assigned to work on Special Counsel Jack Smith investigations, and secured a settlement that absolved Trump and his family of all past tax liabilities, among many other abuses. 

“If Todd Blanche is confirmed as Attorney General, there will be no ethical lines between the White House and the Attorney General. There are no lines now,” says Cobb. “Todd Blanche is unfit to be Attorney General of the United States.”
