Justice Connection’s Peter Carr To Testify at Senate Forum on Blanche Nomination
Justice Connection’s Communications Director Peter Carr will testify today at a Senate spotlight forum titled, “Todd Blanche: The President’s Lawyer.” Carr was fired by then-Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche in April 2025.
The forum, convened by U.S. Senator Cory Booker, will examine the Justice Department’s abandonment of the rule of law under Todd Blanche’s leadership, correcting the record following Blanche’s evasive testimony last week.
“Firings under Todd Blanche's leadership send an unmistakable message: agents, analysts, lawyers, and even spokespeople can be fired simply because of their assigned cases,” Carr will tell Senators. “Agents or prosecutors who think they’ll be fired for their cases are less likely to accept difficult assignments. And they might start looking more at the long-term consequences of an investigation for their careers, rather than at the facts and the law. That's not the justice we should want for our country.”
Carr served as a government spokesman for nearly 25 years, with more than 15 at the Justice Department. He first joined DOJ as a political appointee in the George W. Bush administration. At the end of Bush’s term, Carr stayed on as a career public affairs employee, counseling Attorneys General and senior DOJ leadership across multiple administrations. He was repeatedly asked to handle some of DOJ’s highest-profile and most sensitive matters, including Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigations.
In addition to Carr, the forum will feature testimony from
Perry A. Carbone, former Chief of the Criminal Division in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, Chief of the White Plains Division, and Assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of New Jersey. He served as Co-Chief in White Plains with Todd Blanche.
Liz Stein, human trafficking survivor, advocate, and one of the most prominent public voices among survivors of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell who recently met with Blanche.
Clare Finkelstein, Algernon Biddle Professor of Law and Professor of Philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, and the founder and faculty director of the Center for Ethics and the Rule of Law (CERL), a nonpartisan interdisciplinary institute affiliated with Penn Law.
