Statement on the Advancement of Todd Blanche’s Nomination for Attorney General
Stacey Young, executive director and founder of Justice Connection, issued a statement following reports that a majority of Members on the Senate Judiciary Committee plan to advance Todd Blanche’s nomination for Attorney General:
“Any Senator’s stamp of approval on Todd Blanche’s reckless attacks on the rule of law is unjustifiable. Under Blanche, thousands of nonpartisan career employees doing mission-critical work have been forced out, putting Americans’ safety and rights at risk. His politicization of the department has eroded public trust and undermined the department’s ability to enforce the law without fear or favor.
“Todd Blanche’s craven assurances do nothing to ensure that the Justice Department will cease its vindictive prosecutions, stop violating court orders and attacking judges, commit to complying with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, end its devastating assault on its own workforce, or start prioritizing the interests of the people over the President’s. They also won’t prohibit the department from continuing to make corrupt payments to the President’s allies through other means, or end the unprecedented and iniquitous tax immunity deal for the President, his family, and their businesses.
“These measly accommodations don’t change the fact that Todd Blanche has been the most destructive leader in the Justice Department’s history. The Senate’s imprimatur on his reign would only increase the harm he’s causing to Americans’ safety and fundamental rights, the nation’s economic standing, and the rule of law.
“Senators must vote no.”
