Justice Connection today launched a workforce data dashboard showing how this administration’s policies impact employment numbers across the Department of Justice.
This administration’s dismantling of offices, sidelining of senior leaders, and culture of fear have driven out thousands of public servants. The numbers, now available on the DOJ Workforce Data Dashboard housed on our website, bears that out.
Since January 2025, DOJ has seen an 8.4% decrease in the total number of employees, compared with 0.5% at the same point in the prior administration. This accounts for about 21,244 departures, including 4,333 attorneys — nearly triple the rate of attorneys who left under the first Trump administration — and 2,836 federal agents, including 1,604 from the FBI.
“Career employees are the backbone of the Justice Department,” said executive director Stacey Young. “We’re now seeing them leave at unprecedented levels across all experience levels and occupations. That will have profound and long-term consequences on the department’s ability to keep people safe and their rights protected.”
Our new dashboard shows employment trends, including hirings and departures, across components and job types. It allows users to compare this administration with the last three presidential administrations. Additionally, users can use the Workforce Look-Up tool to find individual records behind the dashboard to conduct their own analysis. All figures come from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management’s Federal Workforce Data.
